Joao Simao is a feared and respected online shark with over $7 million in online earnings, and in 2016 captured the coveted title of world number one at PocketFives.com. As commanding as he is online, the South American also has a lot of live successes on his impressive CV, with his live tournament cashes over 2 million dollars.

It’s no surprise to see Joao joining the partypoker team given his success in our online events. In May 2016 the Brazilian won the online leg of our partypoker Grand Prix which had a huge field of 3,217 entrants and saw Joao lock up $42,000.

Joao enjoyed the hottest of hot streaks during MILLIONS Germany in February 2018. In the space of just five days, the talented Brazilian made three six-figure cashes, including a massive €251,250 score for finishing second in the Super High Roller event!

What has been your toughest game/tournament?

The POWERFEST $25,000 Super High Roller. I finished 5th after a lot of emotions!

What would you say the highlight of your poker career has been?

I always focus on being consistent —not searching for big hits or highlights —but it would probably be when I hit the number 1 spot worldwide for online tournaments.

What is your top poker tip?

Enjoy if you play for fun and study hard if you want to be a professional.

What else are you known for?

My wife and I are always looking for charities and we love to use poker to raise some money for those who really need it.

Are there any players that you look up to?

Martin Jacobson for me is the most balanced player in the world.

If you could play a game of poker with anyone, who would it be?

I would love to play with the Rolling Stones and beat Mick Jagger heads-up.

If you weren’t a poker player, what would you be?

I’d be an engineer.

I don’t have a favourite quote, but all the advice about working your mind is important.
